We are excited to announce the winner of our 2025 BIPOC Mental Health Academic Scholarship, Dion LOK!
Driven by lived experience and a deep-rooted commitment to justice, Dion is a passionate mental health advocate and case manager at the Washburn Center for Children. With hands-on experience in a day treatment therapeutic classroom, she helps create safe, affirming spaces where children—especially those from BIPOC communities—can begin to reclaim the joy and safety of childhood. Dion shares, “Working with these kids has changed me. It’s been humbling, heartbreaking, and incredibly meaningful, and it’s only deepened my passion for this field.”
Dion brings a trauma-informed, culturally-grounded approach to care, shaped by her own healing journey and a fierce dedication to breaking cycles of generational silence. Known for her empathy, insight, and bold advocacy, she strives to decolonize mental health care and influence state-level policy to ensure BIPOC youth and families are seen, heard, and supported.
Dion’s fierce advocacy has driven her to enact change very early on in her career. In her current position, she has been described as natural leader who fosters collaboration and empowers others while challenging the systems that have historically criminalized or neglected BIPOC mental health and bridging the gap between care providers and patients. We are proud to support Dion’s continued education and are excited to watch the positive change she will bring to our community.
