Personal
Dr. Melvina Bissonette (Oglala Lakota/Diné) was born and raised primarily on the Diné (Navajo) Reservation in New Mexico. Dr. Bissonette moved to MN for medical school and never left – the cold and snow are not that bad. Although, as she ages, she definitely understands snowbirds more. She is married and has 4 children. She met her husband on the psychiatry unit. Chill, he is a psych nurse! In the past, she did enjoy horseback riding and is hoping to get back into that once her youngest is older. She also loves to read and sometimes lift weights and bake (tried her hand at sourdough and realized it might not be for her). At this time, she is relearning how to play the violin (only had one year of orchestra in middle school) and is absolutely loving it.
