For 18 and older, out of high school

Each volunteer brings a new and unique level of expertise to North – Robbinsdale Hospital. No matter where your talents and interests lie, chances are we have an opportunity for you.

Junior Volunteers

For ages 14 and older, currently enrolled in middle school or high school

Applications for Junior Volunteers are currently closed.

If you’re 14 or older and able to make a regularly scheduled healthcare volunteer commitment of 6 months or more, apply for a volunteer opportunity. Generally, you’ll fill a two-to-four-hour shift two to four times per month. Get great experience, fill volunteer hours for school or personal fulfillment, and potentially leave with a network, references, and letters of recommendation.

Healthcare Pathways Summer Program

For students enrolled in college/university

Our Summer Program aims to inspire the next generation of medical professionals through hands-on volunteer experience. Through patient interaction, behind the scenes support and mentorship, participants gain valuable volunteer hours, explore healthcare careers, and receive guidance to inspire their future in medicine.

Frequently asked questions

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Some roles require a minimum age of 16 or 18 but meeting the age requirement doesn’t guarantee placement—assignments depend on fit and availability.

Our volunteer immunization requirements are:

Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis): A current Tdap vaccination is required for all volunteers.
MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of two MMR immunizations or proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella is required.
Varicella (Chickenpox): Documentation of Varicella immunization, proof of immunity, or a history of having had the disease is required.

Volunteers work to assist staff as the staff members provide direct care. While you may interact with patients and visitors in your volunteer role, you will not provide any direct care measures.

While volunteering at Robbinsdale Hospital, you may have the opportunity to apply to shadowing opportunities. These are one-time experiences to observe nursing staff in various departments of the hospital. They are offered in partnership with the Education Department to qualifying volunteers.
