Lactation Services
Our board-certified lactation consultants and specially trained nurses at North – Maple Grove Hospital provide evidence–based support to help you keep your baby full and healthy. We are available for both inpatient and outpatient appointments, including prenatal consults.
Schedule an outpatient lactation appointment:
Our lactation consultants work 365 days a year, because babies get hungry on weekends and holidays, too.
We are committed to respecting the best, evidence-based medicine for new babies and families, including robust breastfeeding support. We respect all kinds of feeding for all kinds of reasons, and we pour our energy into making sure you’re armed with all the information you need to keep your baby full and happy.
If you are facing lactation challenges or your baby is struggling to nurse, our lactation consultants are available for advice, instruction, and support.
Expert lactation support
- All of our nurses have specialized education and training regarding lactation and healthy infant feeding, so they can support you and your family during your stay.
- All of our outpatient lactation consultants are IBCLC-certified, which is an international certification standard requiring hundreds of hours of intensive training.
- We have pasteurized donor human milk available for our inpatients during their hospital stay if supplemental feedings are needed during the breastfeeding journey.
- You do not need to have delivered your baby at North – Maple Grove Hospital or be a current patient to use our lactation service. Check with your insurance provider for coverage.

Prenatal consults
- We offer personalized sessions with a lactation consultant to help you prepare for breastfeeding before your baby arrives.
- During your visit, we’ll talk through your feeding goals, review your medical and pregnancy history, and discuss what to expect in the early days postpartum.
- These consults are especially helpful if you’ve experienced breastfeeding difficulties in the past or if your current pregnancy includes complications that may affect feeding—such as diabetes, gestational hypertension, thyroid conditions, or a history of low milk supply.
