SafeJourney is one of the few hospital-based domestic abuse programs that provides 24-hour, on site advocacy. North Memorial Medical Center developed the comprehensive response to proactively identify and respond to patients suffering from domestic abuse. SafeJourney consists of the following components:
Staff Training
Medical staff are trained to identify, document, and refer patients where abuse is suspected.
24-Hour Advocacy
Trained volunteer advocates provide 24-hour advocacy to assist patients with options and resources, safety plans, legal remedies, and safe housing. On-going support is provided by individual appointments and weekly support groups.
Community Outreach and Education
Professional training and classroom presentations are provided to help increase the public's awareness and response to domestic abuse.
SafeJourney Volunteers: The Key to SafeJourney Success
SafeJourney is staffed entirely by volunteer advocates who provide 24-hour hospital advocacy, facilitate support groups, serve on a speakers bureau, and assist with fundraising.
