North Memorial Hospice has established funds for gifts donated in honor or memory of loved ones. Gifts to the Hospice Memorial Funds are a significant way to honor or remember someone special. Gifts remember a treasured life and let families know you have them in both heart and mind. Gifts are also a way to honor someone you care about, commemorate a special occasion, or pay tribute to someone special.

Who benefits from these funds?

Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, hospice is improving the quality of life for many people every hour of every day. Insurance programs cover only about 25% of the cost of care. Support for North Memorial Hospice helps cover these costs and enables us to offer care to everyone.

These gifts make a huge difference to hospice patients and families as they may be without usual sources of income due to illness. North Memorial Hospice helps patients and families cover the cost of care and obtain needed equipment or medication as well as provide loss support groups, educational materials and other patient needs.

Q. Why should I donate to North Memorial Hospice?
A. Because your gift has an immediate impact on the lives of others. Your gift doesn't sit waiting for a twice a year grant-making process. Patients and their families have urgent needs. We make use of donated funds every single day.

Q. What makes North Memorial Hospice a good choice for donations?
A. Helping people at the end-of-life is exceptionally meaningful. Through the use of your gift, many of the day-to-day money worries can take a back seat for patients and families and can help them focus energy on the important tasks - being together and saying goodbye.

Q. How are patients and families helped by donated funds?
A. The primary use of donated money is for patient care. People can be helped with the cost of the Residential Hospice, co-pays required by insurance, gift certificates for holidays or birthdays, rent payments or special equipment. Donated funds also cover the cost of music and massage therapy.

Q. Who manages these funds?
A. Your funds are in good hands. Overall, the North Memorial Community Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, oversees all donated funds. Hospice funds are in their own account and the Hospice Manager makes certain the funds go where there is a need.

Q. How are funds distributed?
A. Our social workers or nursing staff generally see where help is needed. The staff requests approval from the manager. From that point, a check can be mailed or hand-delivered to the patient or family. It's a fast system and allows requests to be met quickly.
