Doula
A growing number of women are seeking the aid of a doula. A doula is a person trained and experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother and her support person during labor and birth.
A doula offers personalized help and advice on comfort measures during labor such as breathing, relaxation, massage and positioning. The person also provides support to families in gathering information about labor and their options.
Before hiring a doula, you may want to interview her to make sure you are comfortable with her and the services offered. You will also want to make sure that her values are compatible with yours.
