The North Memorial Difference
- We have highly trained staff who specialize in lymphedema. Three of our physical therapy team members are certified in the assessment and treatment of lymphedema, or abnormal swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system.
- We treat vestibular conditions. North Memorial’s Physical Therapy program offers evaluation and treatment of vestibular or inner ear conditions that can cause dizziness, vertigo and imbalance. Assessment with computerized dynamic posturography is available at our Arbor Lakes Clinic.
- We treat everyone, from kids to adults. In addition to treating adults, our physical therapy program also handles pediatric patients.
At North Memorial, our physical therapists help to improve function and overall quality of life to patients of all ages with the following conditions:
- Neurological deficits
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Cardiopulmonary issues
- Integumentary complications
- Vestibular disorders
Our physical therapists help patients improve their quality of life and overall safety when dealing with balance and inner ear disorders.
Certified lymphedema therapists use manual therapy techniques, wrapping, custom garments and exercise to decrease edema (swelling) and to improve function in the upper and lower extremities of patients with lymphedema.
Integration to Home Environment
Family is often encouraged to attend these sessions where therapists discuss integration to the home environment. Our “home” space includes a car, standard queen bed, stairs with adjustable hand rails, a cement curb step and ramp, as well as, carpeted areas and two mock-up bathrooms (one with a tub).
In addition to outpatient Physical Therapy, services are also available to patients staying in the hospital.
