Stroke Patient Speech Programming

Medical research indicates intense therapy over a short period of time can improve speech and language abilities for stroke patients with aphasia. North Memorial offers the following specialty programs for people who have survived a stroke yet live with aphasia.

Intensive Aphasia Treatment Program
The North Memorial Stroke Center is the first in the region to offer this innovative outpatient program that includes many hours of intense therapy over the course of three weeks. The program is designed to help participants relearn old ways or develop new alternative ways of communicating. Patients participate in a combination of individual and group treatments sessions for approximately three and a half hours per day, five days a week.

SpeakEasy
SpeakEasy weekly support group is facilitated by a speech pathologist. Participants are involved in discussions, activities, education and support to improve spoken, written and reading communication skills. Participants benefit by sharing information among others with similar experiences as well as with trained professionals. Attending these groups are a great way to make connections with other stroke survivors. SpeakEasy meets weekly for 12-weeks. Friends and family are welcome and encouraged to attend.
