Most people will spend nearly one-third of their lives asleep - it is vital to our health and wellbeing. If you are concerned about how a sleep disorder may be affecting your health or that of a loved one, we'd like to hear from you. We invite you to learn more about our services below and to contact us directly with any questions.

Our Approach to Your Care

North Memorial's Sleep Health Center is a facility where someone who may be suffering from a sleep disorder will be evaluated, monitored and diagnosed.

We will work with a patient's regular doctor to determine whether or not a sleep study is necessary. It is generally an overnight procedure, though depending on diagnosis, a smaller number of patients do stay for part of the next day for further study.

Your evaluation begins with a consultation with a sleep medicine clinician. At that time testing and follow-up will be recommended based on what is best for your sleep disorder.

Services Offered

One of the primary services we offer is called a sleep study - a test that records information about your sleep. It identifies sleep events like snoring, movement, heart rate, and general sleep behavior. The information is recorded and monitored by specially trained technologists, who provide the findings to our Sleep Health Center doctors.

The rooms at our center are designed to resemble that of a nice hotel. Patients have a private room and easy access to bathrooms, showers and a lounge. All of our rooms have Select Comfort™ Sleep Number® beds. A continental breakfast is provided in the morning. We want patients to feel at home and sleep as normally as possible so we can make the most accurate diagnosis.

Unique Capabilities for Many Different Patients

We've worked to develop a facility that would be both inviting and accommodating to almost anyone needing a sleep study. For example, each of our rooms is designed to accommodate the unique mobility and comfort needs of bariatric patients.

We're also pleased to accept pediatric patients for sleep studies - a capability that is unavailable at most metro area sleep centers. At North Memorial, children as young as three years old can undergo a sleep evaluation.

Sleep Education Resource Center

Visitors are always welcome to use our sleep education resource center, with access to all of the best resources available both online and in print form. This space also serves as an office area for patients who need to stay through the day for testing. They can check e-mail, send faxes, make phone calls and complete other work-related tasks while undergoing a sleep study.

Health Insurance

Most insurance plans do cover the cost of a sleep study, but individuals should check with their health plan to be sure. We recommend that you consult with your primary care doctor to obtain a referral. He or she will play an important role in your diagnosis and long-term treatment recommendations. Your insurance providers may require that you first obtain a referral from your primary care doctor before they will cover the cost of your visit.
