Maternal Fetal Medicine

Although most pregnancies proceed normally, if you or your baby needs high-risk care during pregnancy, your health care provider may refer you to North Memorial’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinics. A high-risk pregnancy is one in which certain conditions put you, your developing fetus or both at higher-than-average risk for complications during pregnancy and/or after your baby’s birth.

Our maternal-fetal medicine program offers a comprehensive range of personalized high-risk obstetrical care, fetal diagnosis and treatment services for women with special medical and obstetrical conditions.  Our physicians and staff can provide specialized testing, monitoring and treatment for both you and your baby before delivery.

The North Memorial Difference

We provide support for each patient’s individual care plan. Our physicians and staff provide medical consultation, patient counseling and education, diagnostic testing and procedural techniques tailored to support each patient’s individual care plan. They also coordinate care with neonatal care experts at each location as needed.

We partner with your referring physician. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists work to continue your obstetric care with your referring physician whenever possible. Should a higher level of care become necessary, our knowledgeable staff and resources are readily available.

We offer coordination of care for your baby after delivery. Should your newborn arrive early or with health problems, North Memorial Medical Center’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Maple Grove Hospital’s Level II NICU are available. We can provide a high level of care for your baby, and do so near your recovery area.

We encourage preconception counseling for women with pre-existing medical conditions or a history of prior obstetrical complications. This will provide an opportunity for you to discuss possible health risks and prepare a care plan designed to optimize the outcome of future pregnancies.

Accreditation

Our program has received ultrasound practice accreditation in the area of Maternal-Fetal Medicine by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
