Maple Grove Update

North Memorial Health Care and Fairview Health Services Announce Maple Grove Hospital Partnership

(Minneapolis, MN - October 10, 2005) - North Memorial Health Care and Fairview Health Services are proud to announce a partnership to create a new hospital in Maple Grove. By working together, North Memorial and Fairview will bring exceptional health care services in all specialties to residents of Maple Grove and the surrounding communities. This partnership exceeds the Maple Grove hospital criteria outlined in the Senate bill introduced in the 2005 regular legislative session. Through this collaboration, the organizations hope to move forward with construction on a new Maple Grove hospital by receiving legislative approval during a possible special legislative session before the end of the year.

As part of the agreement, the new Maple Grove hospital will be built on the current North Memorial site, located near the intersection of Interstate 94 and the future Highway 610. Both organizations are constructing ambulatory care centers that will serve the northwest communities. If legislative approval is received for the new North Memorial/Fairview Maple Grove hospital proposal during a fall legislative session, design would begin immediately and the hospital could open in 2008.

For the past year, North Memorial and Fairview have been separately vying for legislative approval to build a new hospital in Maple Grove. By partnering, the organizations will combine their areas of health care excellence and provide the most comprehensive offering of health care services needed in the fast-growing northwest communities.

Health Care Services

While North Memorial and Fairview finalize details of this new Maple Grove hospital partnership, both organizations are confident this proposal satisfies the health care needs of the northwest metro communities as well as the requests from state officials encouraging health care organizations to work together to find the best solution that addresses the state's growing need for health care services.

Through this unique partnership, North Memorial will bring its emergency and trauma services closer to residents in the northwest metro. Widely recognized as a leader in emergency and trauma care, North Memorial Ambulance - as a partner - will also have an ambulance base located at the proposed site. North Memorial will also offer specialty services such as heart care, OB/GYN, cancer care and more.

Fairview will bring University of Minnesota Physicians and its leading edge medicine to the partnership. Fairview will also provide pediatric services through University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview; innovative senior care through Ebenezer senior services and comprehensive mental health services for adults, adolescents and children.

"Since the beginning, our goal has been to provide the best health care services possible to the residents of Maple Grove and the surrounding northwest communities," said David Cress, North Memorial CEO. "Through this partnership we will be able to offer enhanced programs and services vital to the community, ranging from emergency care to OB/GYN and pediatrics. Ultimately, this collaboration brings a comprehensive offering of health care services closer to home for our patients and their families."

Fairview President and CEO David Page agrees this newly formed partnership addresses the needs of the community. "The community believes we are quality providers and trusted organizations," said Page. "We hope to make a new Maple Grove hospital a reality sooner rather than later. Once we have legislative approval, we will immediately begin design of the new hospital."
