North Memorial Breaks Ground for Maple Grove Medical Campus

North Memorial officially broke ground on its new Maple Grove Medical Campus today, kicking off the first phase of North Memorial’s plan to bring exceptional health care services closer to the residents of Maple Grove. The first phase will include an ambulatory care center and medical office building.

"Today we are not just breaking ground for a physical structure," said David Cress, North Memorial president and chief operating officer. "We are breaking ground for a new concept in how health care will be delivered to this community for decades to come."

Maple Grove Medical Campus – Phase I
North Memorial’s new medical campus will open its doors in early 2007, bringing the first 24-hour/7 days-a-week urgent care/emergency service to the Maple Grove community. The 150,000-square-foot ambulatory care center will also include outpatient surgery, imaging and a gastrointestinal laboratory.

Phase I of the this project will also include a 90,000-square-foot medical office building that will offer convenient access to specialty care services currently offered at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Specialty care services that will be offered at the new medical office building include OB/GYN, cardiology, general surgery, orthopedics, primary care, dental services and eye services.

"We have been caring for patients in this community longer than any other organization," said Cress. "We have the physician—patient relationships that go back literally generations and we are very much looking forward to bringing our high quality care closer to Maple Grove residents."

Maple Grove Medical Campus – Phase II
Phase II of North Memorial’s plan to bring health care closer to the Maple Grove community includes a partnership with Fairview Health Services to create a new hospital in Maple Grove. By working together, North Memorial and Fairview will bring exceptional health care services in all specialties to residents of Maple Grove and the surrounding communities. This partnership exceeds the Maple Grove hospital criteria outlined in the Senate bill introduced in the 2005 regular legislative session. Through this collaboration, the organizations hope to move forward with construction on a new Maple Grove hospital by receiving legislative approval during a possible special legislative session before the end of the year.

As part of the agreement, the new Maple Grove hospital will be built on the current North Memorial site, located near the intersection of Interstate 94 and the future Highway 610. Both organizations are constructing ambulatory care centers that will serve the northwest communities. If legislative approval is received for the new North Memorial/Fairview Maple Grove hospital proposal during a fall legislative session, design would begin immediately and the hospital could open in 2008.

For the past year, North Memorial and Fairview have been separately vying for legislative approval to build a new hospital in Maple Grove. By partnering, the organizations will combine their areas of health care excellence and provide the most comprehensive offering of health care services needed in the fast-growing northwest communities.
