Water Birth

Often called a "gentle birth," waterbirth is gaining popularity as women recognize the calming, relaxing effects of water.

During a waterbirth, the mother labors and gives birth in a large birthing tub. The baby emerges from the fluid of the womb, into the warm water of the tub, providing an easier transition from the mother's womb to an external "womb" of warm water. The baby is gently lifted out of the water and takes a first breath of air.

Many women who have chosen waterbirth say they have experienced less pain, and less abdominal pressure due to the water's buoyancy. The size and depth of the tub allow for movement and positioning. The father/partner may take an active role in the birth experience.

It's important to discuss birthing options with your provider early in your pregnancy. For more information call (763) 520-1366.
