We’re a leader in diabetes education. North Memorial is one of the first diabetes education programs in Minnesota to be recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting certain high standards of care.
North Memorial’s Diabetes Education program has served the community for more than 30 years by offering high-quality diabetes education services in accordance with the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs.

Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Individual appointments evaluate your needs and help identify lifestyle changes for successful self-management of your diabetes. Instruction on blood sugar monitoring, oral diabetes medication, insulin, personal meal planning and many other topics may be included. Call (763) 581-5850 to schedule an individual appointment.

Diabetes and Pregnancy

Individual appointments help women with gestational diabetes and women who have diabetes prior to getting pregnant manage diabetes until after delivery. Instruction includes blood sugar and ketone monitoring, personal meal planning, appropriate weight change, physical activity and medications that may be needed. Diabetes Self-Management Classes

Classes offer detailed information to help you understand and manage your diabetes. The class size is limited to encourage questions and discussion, and to provide you with individual attention and support. Topics include:

Good diabetes control and how is it monitored
Personal meal planning
Nutrition facts labels and grocery shopping
Eating away from home
Use of alcohol
Lifestyle eating changes
Physical activity
Diabetes medications
Management during brief illness

Pre-Diabetes

An individual appointment or a pre-diabetes class offers instruction on what lifestyle changes you can make to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. Topics include an overview of pre-diabetes, personal meal planning, nutrition facts labels and grocery shopping, eating away from home, use of alcohol and physical activity. Adult Diabetes Care Support Group

A topic related to diabetes is presented and discussed during each session, which meets the second Monday of each month from 3 to 4 p.m. in the North Memorial Outpatient Center at 3435 West Broadway in Robbinsdale. Registration is not required, and there is no charge to attend.
