Our team is comprised of seasoned healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurse clinicians, who are uniquely familiar with the special needs of patients who have suffered a traumatic injury.
Mark Ahrendt, MD
Mark Ahrendt, MD, has served as a trauma surgeon at North Memorial since 1993. He has a clinical special interest in initial Emergency Department evaluation and continued hospital care of all types of traumatic injuries.
Alan Beal, MD
Alan Beal, MD, is Associate Director of Trauma Services and Director of the Trauma/Neuro ICU at North Memorial, where he has served for 18 years. He is also the Surgical Education Director for surgical residents and medical students. Dr. Beal has a clinical special interest in trauma surgery, surgical critical care and acute care surgery, and evaluating and treating complex patients with injuries or surgical problems that also require care in the ICU.

Jonathan Gipson, MD
Jonathan Gipson, MD, is the Medical Director of Trauma Services at North Memorial. Dr. Gipson has a special interest in the surgical management of trauma and the care of patients requiring emergent and urgent general surgical procedures. His non-emergent clinical focus is on the surgical treatment of gastrointestinal diseases and bariatric surgical procedures, including laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

Wendy Dellich is a registered nurse with certification in neuroscience. Her clinical special interests include caring for trauma and acute care surgery patients and their families.
Jennifer M. Kling, FNP
Jennifer Kling, FNP, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner whose clinical special interests include caring for patients in Trauma Services from admission to discharge, and in follow-up care.
Michaela McLain, NP
Michaela McClain is a nurse practitioner whose clinical special interests include rehabilitation, trauma and urgent/emergent care. She enjoys caring for the patient as a whole and working with patient's families as well.
Patricia Reicks, RN
Patty Reicks, RN, is the pediatric trauma coordinator and research coordinator for North Memorial Trauma Services. She holds certifications in critical care and neuroscience.
Melanie Smalley, RN
Lisa Sorenson, RN
Lisa Sorenson, RN, is a certified plastic surgical nurse - the only one on staff at North Memorial. She has 17 years of orthopedic experience and 21 years of plastic surgery experience.
Melissa Thorson, MS, RN
Melissa A.L. Thorson MS, RN, CCRN, CCNS is the trauma program manager for North Memorial Trauma Services. She is a clinical nurse specialist with special interests in trauma, acute care surgery and critical care.
